Massage Therapy
Massage therapy is one of the oldest and most natural of the healing arts and has been used for thousands of years to ease muscle pain and reduce stress. During a treatment, the therapist massages the client's body to feel for muscle knots, energy blockages, stiffness, rigidity, and to gain a sense of the patient's overall health. Not only does a good massage relieve many symptoms and conditions, it has been shown to improve a person's quality of life. At RiverWoods, we offer basic, Swedish, and deep tissue massages.
Swedish Massage
Swedish massage uses five basic strokes: sliding or gliding, kneading, rhythmic, and tapping friction. It can help to reduce pain, joint stiffness, and improve mobility in patients with osteoarthritis.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscles and the connective tissue or fascia. This type of massage focuses on the muscles located underneath the top layer of muscles.
Ear Candling
This alternative healing method has been used for centuries to relieve migraines, allergies, sinus problems, and to prevent frequent ear infections. The process involves gently inserting the base of an ear candle a fraction of an inch into the outer ear canal. The candle is then lit and the flame creates a vacuum which naturally and gently pulls the wax, moisture, and other residues out of the ear and into the candle.
Reflexology
Reflexology is an ancient healing art based on the principles that there are reflexes in the hands and feet that correspond to every part, organ, and gland in the body. It is a therapeutic method of relieving pain by stimulating predefined pressure points on the feet and hands.
