Slifer House Summer Concert Series Coming This Summer

The annual Slifer House Summer Concert Series is coming this summer with three performances scheduled. The three concerts will take place on June 11, July 9 and August 13, near the Slifer House on the campus of RiverWoods Senior Living Community.

This year’s performances include Blue River Spell on June 11, the Thieving Magpies on July 9 and Jenna & Rolf on August 13, all at 7 p.m.

Blue River Spell is a five piece band performing selections of jazz, blues, Latin, swing, soul, rock and pop songs. They perform a wide variety of music from “the American songbook” including 1960s classic rock, swing, pop, country cross-over, rhythm and blues, a very nice light jazz style, and some very upbeat favorites. This 5-piece ensemble includes: Sara Lauver on vocals; Ted DiCola on saxophones, clarinet and flute; Jim Kerber on drums; Andy Seal on bass; and Rick Findlay on keyboards and vocals.

The Thieving Magpies is made up of local favorite musicians Karen Nogle and Don Krech. After a few rehearsals with mutual musician friends and performing only a handful of shows together in the past 8 years, Karen Nogle and Don Krech decided to fuse their skills and humor and form a duo. Don will be masterfully styling the music on his yellow guitars, while Karen serenades in her best tones of jazz, modern pop remixes and a couple of country tunes.

Jenna Mammina and Rolf Sturm are a vocal and guitar duo playing jazz, pop and Americana. Vocalist Jenna Mammina has been recognized as one of the leading women of jazz/pop crossover for three years in a row by Jazziz Magazine. Guitarist Rolf Sturm grew up in Lewisburg. He has been featured on NPR and has received 4 stars in DownBeat magazine. Since their debut release entitled “Spark” (Spring 2015), Jenna & Rolf have been touring/performing almost every month. Together they’ve toured throughout the United States, Europe and Mexico, performing at festivals, conferences, clubs, cafes, and house concerts.

The location of the concerts has shifted from the Slifer House porch to the grassy area outside the entrance to Riverview Manor, just past the Slifer House and to the left.

Please bring a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy the shows. Donations are welcome to offset the cost of the concert series. Bottled water and ice cream with toppings will be available at all three concerts. During inclement weather, concerts will be held in Marlow Hall, RiverWoods Nursing Care Center.
