RiverWoods Senior Living Community hosted a 100th birthday party for Alice Aller, who was born on October 21, 1919. Alice grew up near Flemington, New Jersey and met her husband, James, when she was 20. Her daughter, Judy Aller Holub, says her father asked her mother to go to the movies in 1939 and they were together every day after that, marrying in 1940. They both worked on a family farm.
Alice and James moved to Exchange in Montour County in 1976, after buying another farm. Judy says her mother loved to sew and garden, was an excellent cook and was very active at her church. She said Alice is very social and outgoing and also was a hard worker. Alice’s husband James passed away in 1995 at the age of 82. Alice moved to RiverWoods three years ago.
Alice attributes her long life to heredity. She said, “My grandfather in Denmark lived past 100.” Alice added, “I have had a good life and I married a good man… and just enjoyed my time with him and my children.”
Alice’s family hosted a big 100th birthday party for her Saturday at the Lewisburg Hotel. She also enjoyed cake and balloons with her friends at RiverWoods on Monday, October 21. Judy gave her mother a hand-made family tree, showing all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which totals 39.
