Supporting RiverWoods and The Community It Serves

The Auxiliary provide services and equipment to enhance the lives of RiverWoods residents.

“RiverWoods is my home, and will always be my home. While I’m healthy and able now, that won’t always be the case. The Auxiliary was established in 1971 to “enhance the quality of life of the residents.” The Gift Shop is the primary source of Auxiliary income, which is then donated to RiverWoods. Giving a few hours a month to tend the shop is pleasant and rewarding – the very least I can do.”
– Jan Field, RiverWoods resident

Our History and Purpose

The RiverWoods Auxiliary traces its roots back to 1915 when an Auxiliary was formed at Central Oak Heights as plans were made to open the Evangelical Home and Orphanage. Over the years its function has remained the same—dedication to improving the quality of life for the residents of the Home, now RiverWoods Senior Living Community. The Auxiliary continues to provide services and equipment to enhance the lives of the residents and also donates to the Benevolent Care Fund. Auxiliary Volunteer Opportunities

There are many ways that Auxiliary members can help to support the work of the Auxiliary. The Gift Shop, located in the Nursing Care Center, is staffed by Auxiliary volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering your time in this way, please call 570-522-6220 and ask for the Volunteer Coordinator. Gift Shop items are also sold in RidgeCrest.

The Woodshop is located in the lower level of the pharmacy building and many of the items made there are sold in the Gift Shop and in RidgeCrest. If you are interested in woodworking, please contact Dick Stover, Wood Shop Manager, at (570) 522-0488.

There are additional opportunities for volunteering at RiverWoods throughout the year. Whether it is helping to transport residents to Sunday worship, helping to light luminaries for Grande Illumination in December, or greeting folks as they come to the Adams Center, we need you! Please call (570) 522-6220 and ask for the Volunteer Coordinator who will connect you to the appropriate person based on your interest.

Creating an open door for membership.

Membership in the Auxiliary is open to all persons who are interested in the well-being of the residents of RiverWoods, including residents and staff. Members pay annual dues as set by the Board of Directors of
the RiverWoods Auxiliary. Currently dues are $5.00 per year.
